Sorrento (Con't.)
Various seaside towns dot the picturesque landscape and Sorrento is an exceptional community. If you arrive from the sea you will walk (or ride/drive) to the town itself where you will find narrow streets filled with shops and cafes and hotels full of people laughing and shopping and celebrating “La dolce Vita” (the sweet life) that is so Italian!

Located about 30 miles from Naples and perched atop 500-foot cliffs overlooking the bays of Salerno and Naples, Sorrento is simply magnificent. It boasts a mild climate and is a favorite destination and often home to celebrities and artists. It is also the gateway to the romantic island of Capri and close to the ruins of Pompei.
Food is of utmost importance to Italians and in Sorrento you will find marvelous eateries serving a large selection of delicacies and in a wide range of budgets. Expect to see mussels being served in a variety of dishes and you'll see limoncello on every bar menu. Caruso Restaurant is known not only for its fine food but for its pictures of the renowned opera singer. Ristorante Bagni Delfino is listed as the #1 Sorrento eatery on Tripadvisor (as of this writing). Nearby vineyards produce red and white wines. Wine and olive oil tastings are a popular pastime and you might want to take a culinary class while you’re in this area. And, of course, there are gelato shops everywhere you look – and very delicious.
Fishing and boating activities are very popular here. Golf courses are nearby and there is always a festival going on. Hiking and biking are other pastimes you may enjoy. Sorrento is a great jumping off place for excursions to Pompeii and Herculaneum.
